Dyslexia Facts

Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) techniques has shown that dyslexic individuals have altered left hemisphere areas of the brain as well as altered connections within the different regions of the left hemisphere. Dyslexia has a tendency to run in families. Genetic studies have been able to link a few genes to dyslexia. The following review from the Journal of Medical Genetics gives some insight into the genetics of dyslexia.
Being dyslexic has its challenges but it also has so, so many advantages. The University of Michigan has a website called DyslexiaHelp which lists just a few strengths/advantages an individual with dyslexia has over an individual without dyslexia. Celebrate being dyslexic!
